Summer Feeding Program

Serving 7 counties in Middle Tennessee

Helping Kids Stay Nourished When School Is Out.

During the Summer of 2025, TNKids Nutrition provided free summer meals to children across seven counties in Tennessee, ensuring kids continued to have access to food when school cafeterias were closed. Each week, families received food designed to support children’s nutritional needs throughout the summer months.

Our Summer Feeding Program is built to remove barriers to access. Food is distributed through community drop sites and scheduled routes so families can pick up meals close to home. Parents or guardians may pick up food on behalf of their children, making the program accessible, dignified, and family-friendly.

Who the Program Serves

The Summer Feeding Program supports children and families throughout participating Tennessee counties during the summer months.

The program is designed for:

  • Families with school-aged children

  • Children who rely on school meals during the academic year

  • Communities with limited access to food during summer break

No child should go hungry simply because school is out—and this program exists to make sure that doesn’t happen.

What’s Included in Each Weekly Food Box

Each weekly food box provides 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches per child, giving families a full week of meals. Boxes include a combination of shelf-stable, refrigerated, and frozen items that are kid-friendly, easy to prepare, and nutritious. Items may include:

  • Breakfast items such as milk, juice, pastries, or cereal

  • Lunch options like sandwiches, pasta meals, fruit cups, and snacks

  • Shelf-stable and refrigerated foods to ensure safety and convenience

Contents may vary slightly week to week based on availability, but every box is carefully planned to meet USDA nutrition guidelines.

How to Find a Summer Meal Site

Families can locate nearby summer meal pickup locations and schedules by visiting the county pages on our website. Drop sites are scheduled for specific days and times, and pickup windows are brief to ensure food safety.

If you need help finding a location or have questions about pickup times, our team is happy to help.
